Music for a Feast | November 2
David Ammer leads a performance focusing on baroque chamber music written for the royal
courts throughout Europe. Guest artists include University of Michigan professors Jeff Lyman
(bassoon), Nancy Ambrose King (oboe) and Joseph Gascho (harpsichord).
VOX3MACHINA | December 7
VOX3MACHINA (Timothy McAllister, Kathryn Goodson and Randall Hawes) performs a
diverse duo and trio repertoire, including commissions by Michigan composers Stephen Rush
(LightRays 2018-19 premiere) and David Biedenbender (Liquid Architecture 2012), as well as
lush transcriptions from Max Bruch, Mozart and more. Chicago composer James Stephenson
dedicated his showstopper Mahogany Moods in 2015 to the trio, referencing both their
uniquely rich sound and the first letter of their last names. VOX3MACHINA appears courtesy

Operatic Oboes | February 1
Newly-appointed Second Oboe of the DSO, Sarah Lewis, makes her Nightnotes debut in a
performance of opera arias transcribed for oboe. Guest artists include Alex Kinmonth (oboe)
and Tiffany Hyun Binder (piano).
When Classical Meets Jazz | February 22
Vincent Chandler and Kimwana Doner present several selections from Kathleen Battle’s So
Many Stars: jazz arrangements of spirituals and other jazz-influenced pieces including Porgy
and Bess for voice, trombone, saxophone, piano, bass and drums.
Kimberly Kaloyanides Kennedy, Adrienne Rönmark & Debra Fayroian | April 12
DCWS violinist Kimberly Kaloyanides Kennedy and her DSO colleague, Adrienne Rönmark,
perform works including Prokofiev’s Sonata for Two Violins. They will be joined in works for
violin and cello by Debra Fayroian, longtime Nightnotes Artistic Director.
Balance: Marcus Elliot & Michael Malis | May 31
Prominent Detroit jazz musicians Marcus Elliot (saxophone) and Michael Malis (piano) premiere
a new work featuring a DCWS string quartet, saxophone and piano. This performance is
